More Info

While many can identify with the concept of ‘tree climbing’ from our younger years, few have had the opportunity to see world-class competitive tree climbing 'up close'.

The New Zealand Tree Climbing Championship is the sport of arborists. The competition pits New Zealand’s best against one another, champion against champion, battling it out for New Zealand’s top titles.  The competition itself involves in a series of tests of agility, speed and skill, high in the canopy of the trees. The event culminates in the Masters’ Challenge on Saturday 13 Oct from which the 2024 champions will emerge.

Get the whole family on down to Victoria Park to watch the action.  The Tamariki will not only get to meet a bunch of cool arborists that climb trees for a living, but also have a go for themselves. Children will wear a special safety harness and with the help of our arborist experts, will get to climb a tree (as high as they are comfortable) and check out a view usually reserved for the professionals and birds!

Plus, don’t miss the “Ask an Arborist” tent where our tree experts will be ready to answer all your tree-related questions and share some fun tree facts. It’s an exciting day for the whole family!
